Days at Daystar

Eleazer Kokonya, DUSoL Class of 2024.

I remember it like it was yesterday, that left turn from Mombasa road that ushered me into the vast lands of Lukenya. The rough roads quickly gave way to tarmac, leaving a cloud of dust behind, symbolic of a new dawn. After a short drive in the sweltering hot sun, ahead stood the mighty blue gates of Daystar University. As the gates swung open, I carried more questions than answers. It was the beginning of an interesting journey. A journey filled with promise, challenge, and discovery.

Days quickly turned into weeks and weeks into months. Late nights in the library, surrounded by volumes of books, became a common sight. Spending all my time with like-minded colleagues. ‘The Mastermind’ was a name we had coined for our group, and it gave us so much pride and optimism. I learned not only from professors, but also from all my classmates who, in their individual capacities, pushed themselves to their very limit.

Yet, it was not all seriousness. Sometimes, when preparing lengthy moot court submissions, tackling endless assignments, and in constant fights with looming deadlines, sanity and madness would become neighbors. In the midst of such chaos, we would always sneak in light-hearted banter, coining nicknames for our lecturers and even making impressions of them. Hearty laughter would echo in the classrooms at the LR block. Such moments are deeply nostalgic. They kept us sane and cemented our camaraderie, creating an endless stream of inside jokes.

By the time graduation approached, I realized Daystar hadn’t just trained me to think like a lawyer; it had shaped my whole personality into a person of conviction, humility, courage, and refined spirituality. The good old days are dearly missed, but the bonds created forge on.
